Two arms weren't enough…
now he's got four

And things are only getting worse.

Introducing Finch's Arms — a preposterous tale of Kafkaesque proportions by debut novelist Laz Newton. Kafka meets Charlie Brooker, with a dash of Ballard.

Finch's Arms Book Cover
"The kind of outsider satire that leans fully into its perversity and leaves behind a haunting atmosphere that stays with you long after you've finished."

About Laz Newton

Laz Newton is a novelist based in Oakham, Rutland — England's smallest county, where the absurd feels right at home. Originally from Basildon in Essex, she now lives with her partner Tim and two rescue border collies, who serve as both muses and chaos agents.

Her writing draws from the surreal traditions of Kafka and Ballard, filtered through the satirical lens of contemporary British life. She finds humour in darkness, meaning in the meaningless, and believes that the best stories are the ones that leave you slightly unsettled.

Finch's Arms is her debut novel — a dark comedy about celebrity culture, moral compromise, and what happens when you grow two extra arms you never asked for. She's currently at work on her second book, a thriller.

The Story

Danny Finch is a middle-aged man stuck in a dead-end job when his life takes an inexplicable turn: he grows a second pair of arms. And while we could all use an extra pair of hands, for Danny, they become more of a curse than a blessing.

Things start to unravel when Danny witnesses something he shouldn't have. Drawn into London's toxic celebrity world — a realm of money, media manipulation, and moral decay — he finds himself grappling with guilt, self-doubt, and a conspiracy that threatens to consume him.

Will Danny's suspicions be proved right? Or will he deteriorate and lose his mind, playing out a fantasy life while reality crumbles around him?

Finch's Arms is outsider satire at its most perverse — a wild romp through the underbellies of British life that's "outrageous at times and funny," while leaving behind a haunting atmosphere you won't soon shake.

What People Are Saying

"If My Year of Rest and Relaxation is insider satire, then Finch's Arms reads as outsider satire."

Faber & Faber

"A real ride… You won't expect where it goes next!"

Rose Cleary, author of How To Be A French Girl

"A wild romp through the many different underbellies of British life and also a canny, fast-moving dissection of popular culture: celebrity TV, home shopping, the decay of pub life, poverty, drug abuse, and despair. Outrageous at times and funny!"

Rachel Callaghan, author of Under Water (2025 NYC Big Book Award winner)
